The Angeles National Forest begins north of Azusa and extends across the San Gabriel Mountains, offering camping, hiking, and recreation to the surrounding region. As an urban national forest—one of sixteen nationwide—it is managed by the U.S. Forest Service to provide public access to forested land within one of the nation's largest metropolitan areas. The forest's Supervisor's Office is located in Arcadia, just minutes from Azusa. The terrain ranges from high desert to mountain forest, and the forest's diverse canyons and elevations create microclimates that support a variety of ecosystems and wildlife.

Visitors to the Angeles National Forest come from Azusa and across the Los Angeles area to hike, camp in designated campgrounds, stay in cabins, picnic, and find solitude and natural scenery that would otherwise be hours away. The forest is close enough for a day trip from Azusa—a family can drive into the mountains, hike, and be home for dinner—yet remote enough to feel like escape. The high-elevation trails offer cooler temperatures and views; the lower canyons are accessible year-round. Each season brings changes: wildflowers in spring, snow at the highest elevations in winter, and the shade and quiet of the forest in summer heat.

Azusa's residents who use the forest for weekend outings, family traditions, and the outdoor activities that define how they spend their time benefit from knowing that those activities will continue and that their families have time together in those places. Life insurance planning for active outdoor families includes the same considerations as for any other household: coverage for the mortgage years, the children's education, the years when an income supports not just daily life but also the cost of the recreation and tradition that makes that life worth living.
